American Legion Auxiliary plays vital role

I know many people have heard of the American Legion and some the American Legion Auxiliary. But do you know what they do for you and the community? Many think it is a social club, but there is far more that the Auxiliary does to support and advocate for our active duty military, veterans and their communities. The American Legion family has a combined membership of 4.2 million members

In the spirit of service, not self, the mission of the American Legion Auxiliary is to support The American Legion and to honor the sacrifice of those who serve by enhancing the lives of our veterans, military and their families, both at home and abroad. For God and country, we advocate for veterans, educate our citizens, mentor youth, and promote patriotism, good citizenship, peace and security.

The vision of the American Legion Auxiliary is to support the American Legion while becoming the premier service organization and foundation of every community providing support to our veterans, our military, and their families by shaping a positive future in an atmosphere of fellowship, patriotism, peace and security.

The American Legion Auxiliary was formed to aid the American Legion in carrying out the great program of peacetime service to America to which the American Legion is dedicated. All of its activities are designed to promote the work of the American Legion and to help the American Legion reach its objectives. Although often working independently on projects of its own, the Auxiliary has no purposes, which are apart from the aims of the American Legion. It is in every sense an “Auxiliary” to the American Legion, and its members serve side by side with the members of the American Legion in the of unselfish devotion to the well being of the American republic. We worked united for the rehabilitation of disabled veterans, children and youth activities, serving the local community, disaster relief activities, for peace and security

The members of the American Legion Auxiliary, Ralph Gracie Unit 14 in Bemidji, invites the public to an open house and lunch at the Bemidji Legion Club, 217 Minnesota Ave., from 1-4 p.m. Oct. 20.

There are many opportunities to serve our community, state and nation as a proud member of the American Legion Auxiliary. We will be giving away one door prize per hour.
