Amateur baseball: Blue Ox drop doubleheader at Roseau
ROSEAU -- Roseau handed the Bemidji Blue Ox a pair of losses Sunday as the home team coasted to an 11-1 win in the opener and stopped Bemidji 7-5 in the rematch.
The Blue Ox managed only five hits in the first game, including a pair of singles by Mitch Hendricks and Matt Baier. Their only run came in the third when Collin Rutledge was hit by a pitch and singles by Hendricks and Baier scored him.
Ryan Stevens was the losing pitcher.
In Sunday's nightcap Bemidji scored twice in the first inning on singles by Hendricks, Cody Rutledge and Nick Hovila. The Blue Ox scored two more in the second as Sam Dwyer singled, Collin Rutledge bunted him to second, Hendricks walked and Ryan Sander and Cody Rutledge singled.
Bemidji tallied its final run in the fifth on Connor McNallan's single, Dwyer's bunt and an error.
Cody Rutledge and Dwyer had two hits to lead Bemidji's attack. Hendricks took the pitching loss.
Bemidji returns to duty noon Sunday when it visits Nevis. The next home appearance will be June 18 against Cass Lake.
