Amaretta Larson, 94, of Shevlin, Minnesota died on Wednesday, March 5, 2014 at Neilson Place in Bemidji, Minnesota.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM Friday, March 14, 2014 at Faith Lutheran Church in Bagley, Minnesota with the Reverend Tricia Mattson officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will be at Bagley City Cemetery. Cease Family Funeral Home of Bagley assisted the family with arrangements.
Amaretta was born on June 15, 1919 at Shevlin, Minnesota, the daughter of Robert and Emma Retta (Allison) Roedocker. Amaretta was the youngest of nine children - three sisters and five brothers. She married Edward A. Larson on October 2, 1938. She was the cook at Shevlin School for several years in the 1950s and later worked at Anderson Drug in Bagley for 32 years as bookkeeper, retiring in 1989. The family enjoyed traveling and took many road trips around the United States. In 1964 she flew to Germany by herself to visit her daughter and family living in Stuttgart and her son, who was stationed in Frankfurt with the US Army. An active member of Faith Lutheran Church, she was also a charter member of the Shevlin Garden Club. She served as a DNR Fire Marshal for 32 years and volunteered as a hairstylist at nursing homes. Her passion was flower gardening and was awarded Grand Champion every year at the County Fair for her flowers. After retirement she studied Brazilian embroidery and created beautiful pillows and pictures which she gifted to family members, also winning awards at the Fair. Other favorite activities were playing the organ, dancing, bowling and playing cards.
She is survived by her daughter Norma K. Vig of Burnsville, Minnesota, son Garth E. (Charlotte) Larson of Shevlin, Minnesota, granddaughters Valori Vig (John) Trantanella of Ellsworth, Wisconsin, Michelle M. (Robert Keller) Vig of Louisville, Colorado, Juli A. Vig of Rosemount, Minnesota, grandsons Ethan E. Larson of Bemidji, Minnesota and Scott Larson of Coral Springs, Florida, step-granddaughter Christine Belcourt Olson of Fosston, Minnesota and step-grandson Kenneth Belcourt of Duluth, Minnesota and nine great-grandchildren. Preceded in death by her parents, her husband, five brothers, three sisters, and son-in-law Charles Vig.
