Alvin R. Stai, 93, of Bemidji died Saturday, December 07, 2013 at the Neilson Place.
A time of sharing will be from 2 to 4pm Friday, December 13, 2013 at the Olson-Schwartz Funeral Home in Bemidji. Private family inurnment will be in the spring in the Trinity Lutheran Cemetery in Debs, MN.
Alvin Rudolph Stai was born November 18, 1920 in Bemidji, MN to Haldor and Christine (Wilberg) Stai. He attended school in Debs Minnesota. He enlisted in the US Navy and was active as an aviation mechanic during WWII. After the war he Married Ruth Elizabeth Clouatre on August 23,1946 in Bemidji, and also opened Als Northside Marine. His shop was located in the back of the Lund and Kroll Sporting Goods in Bemidji. There he sold and repaired marine motors snowmobiles and other small engines until 1960 when he built a new shop on the north end of Bemidji. In Around 1966 Alvin decided to sell his shop and move out west. He lived in Montana, Idaho, and Alaska, making his living as a marine engine mechanic. In 1982 he moved back to Bemidji, MN to enjoy his retirement years. Alvin was also a member, and past commander of the Debs American Legion for many years.
He is survived by one Daughter, Rosemary Johnson of Coeur dAlene, Idaho, and one son Bob Stai of Pinewood, MN. He is also survived by grandchildren, great grandchildren, and by many nieces and nephews.
Alvin is preceded in death by his parents, his wife Ruth, and by 5 brothers and 2 sisters.
