Alvin J. Bloom Jr.
Alvin J. "Spoody" Bloom Jr., 44, of Ponsford, Minn., died Tuesday, Jan. 6, 2009, at St. Joseph's Hospital in Park Rapids.
A funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at the Old Pinepoint School in Ponsford with the Rev. Walter Butor officiating. A visitation will be held from 4 p.m. Saturday to 1 p.m. Sunday at the Red Lake Community Center in Red Lake. Visitation will then continue from 4 p.m. Sunday until the time of the service Monday at the Old Pinepoint School in Ponsford.
David-Donehower Funeral Home of Detroit Lakes is assisting the family with arrangements.
He was born Aug. 12, 1964, to Alvin Sr. and Theresa (Lussier) Bloom in Park Rapids. He attended school in Park Rapids. He worked as a game warden for the White Earth Reservation Tribal Council before joining the police academy in Arizona. He married Renee in Osage in 1984. He was in law enforcement with Red Lake for one year and then moved to Ponsford. He was employed by the Shooting Star Casino as lead security from 1991-1998. He later went to work for Leech Lake Gaming in security and worked his way up to gaming investigator. He was a volunteer for Carsonville Fire and Rescue and responded to fire and ambulance calls.
He was an avid outdoorsman, enjoying hunting and fishing. He also enjoyed golfing, playing billiards and spending time with his family and friends.
He is survived by his wife; children, Amanda (Luis Ruiz) Eischens of Ponsford, Damian (Vanessa) Bloom of Moorhead, Minn., Allena Gerving of Euclid, Minn., and Alisha Bloom of Ponsford; two grandchildren; special friend, Kim McMahon; sisters, Arlys Bloom of Ponsford, Margaret (Lynn) Barten of Park Rapids and Alvina (Delmas) Fairbanks of Ponsford.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Terry Bloom and an infant daughter, Allison.
