Alleged police imposter arrested
BEMIDJI – A man suspected of calling local businesses and posing as an officer was arrested Monday.
Bemidji resident Arron Robert Weatherspoon, 45, admitted to police that he made the phone calls and impersonated a police officer. He was issued a citation for the misdemeanor violation and arrested on a probation violation warrant, according to a press release from the Bemidji police department, and was booked into the Beltrami County Jail. On March 10 and 11, police received numerous complaints about a man who called local businesses saying he was a police officer. “Each time the subject spoke with female employees and asked for personal information such as an address, phone number and their physical descriptions,” the press release stated. Weatherspoon has a criminal history dating back to 1995 that includes charges of felony first- and second-degree burglary, misdemeanor theft and domestic assault. Some of those charges appear to have been reduced prior to sentencing, but the level of offense could not be obtained. Most recently, Weatherspoon was convicted of misdemeanor theft in late 2012. The crime took place in Dakota County.
