Alina Leone (Thrasher) Vesely, 87, of Bemidji, died Tuesday, March 31, 2009, at Havenwood Care Center in Bemidji.
A memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Olson-Schwartz Funeral Home in Bemidji with the Rev. Mark Kindem officiating. Family will greet friends one hour prior to the service. Burial of cremated remains will be held in the spring in Fern Township Cemetery in Becida.
She was born Oct. 29, 1921, to Eluster and Mildred (Buck) Thrasher in Little Cedar, Iowa. She grew up and attended school in Lake Hattie Township in Hubbard County. She worked at the Singer Sewing Center and was a waitress at the Marham Hotel in Bemidji. She attended cosmetology school in Minneapolis. She taught cosmetology for one year and then moved to Nashville, where she worked as a beautician until she retired in 1985. After her retirement, she moved to Bemidji where she has lived since.
She enjoyed quilting with the Bethel Lutheran Church Women.
She is survived by her daughters, LaVerle (Don) McCandless of Cheney, Wash., Mildred "Millie" (Sam) Eastman of Newberg, Ore., Vivian (Norman) Claypool of Bemidji and Barbara (Richard) Speck of Bemidji; 17 grandchildren; great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; sister, Margaret Thiese of Park Rapids and a brother, Norman Thrasher of Fairmount, N.D.
She was preceded in death by her parents; sisters, Marion Johnson and Iona Schockman; and a great-grandchild.
In lieu of flowers, the family prefers memorials to North Country Hospice, American Cancer Society or any other charity.
