Airport review heard by Northome Council
Members of the Northome City Council met June 7 for the regularly scheduled meeting.
Present were Mayor Larry Salmonson and Councilmen Jack White and Jerry Struss. Councilman Bill Eitenmiller was absent.
Others present were City Clerk Connie White, Leroy Thurlby and Jim White.
Jim White addressed the council during the open forum on the condition of the city alley between Northome Grocery and Fisher Station. No action was taken.
Following the approval of the agenda and minutes from the May 4 regular meeting, the council voted to approve hiring
Kelly Kininger as a part time bartender at the municipal liquor store. Progress of the patio building project was also discussed.
The council was informed that Ronald Morrow had purchased the Simplicity riding lawnmower for $726.
It was noted that the road and campsites at Boy Scout Point are in need of some work. The campground is now being used by campers so the council voted to approve awarding $165 from NIEC's Operation Roundup grant for capital improvements.
John Schroeder from MN DOT/Aeronautics visited the airport May 25 to check out the lights. His findings were reviewed by the council.
They were also informed that a mowing attachment for the tractor had been rented for the summer. Struss will be requesting 2012 funding for the future purchase of a mower.
The condition of the airport road was discussed and arrangements will be made to have it graded.
Community clean-up day was held May 21 at the cemetery. A poor attendance was reported and lunch was provided by Northome Grocery.
The council voted to have Struss represent the city of Northome at the Board of Equalization meeting concerning property tax issues.
Next up before the council was the 2010 audit report. Following a short discussion, the council voted to approve the 2010 audit report submitted by Brady Martz, CPA.
May financial reports were then approved as were the monthly claims and expenditures. The May claims already paid totaled $39,612.93 and the current claims total $111.223.85.
Implementing a curfew was discussed, no action taken.
The rubbish and trash ordinance was discussed concerning a citizen's complaint before the meeting was adjourned.
