Agnes V. Coalwell, 99, of Lake Park, died Monday, February 23, 2009, at Sunnyside Care Center, Lake Park, under the care of Hospice of the Red River Valley.
Agnes was born to Gustav and Sarah (Walstrom) Lofgren on July 20, 1909, on a farm northwest of Hitterdal. She was baptized at Salem Lutheran Church in Hitterdal. When Agnes was four the family moved to a farm southeast of Hitterdal, where she grew up. She graduated from Hitterdal High School in 1928.
Agnes married Myron Coalwell on Nov. 26, 1936 in Lake Park. Together they lived in Ulen, Hawley, Northfield and Felton, Minn., before moving to Dilworth in 1952 after Myron began working for the railroad. Agnes lived in Wahpeton, N.D., for six years before she became a resident of Sunnyside Care Center in Lake Park, where she spent the past two years.
For over 50 years, Agnes was a member of Dilworth Lutheran Church, where she was active in Ladies Aide and Circle. She enjoyed baking, sewing, writing letters and sending Christmas cards.
Surviving Agnes are her five sons, Jerry (Bea) Coalwell of Dilworth, Loren (Connie) Coalwell of Wahpeton, Lyle (Debbie) Coalwell of Villa Rica, Ga., Jim (Lois) Coalwell of Ventura, Calif., and Steven (Karn) Coalwell of Oxnard, Calif.; six daughters, Marge (Larry) Morris of Moorhead, Jan (Larry) Oltman of Wadena, Anita (Robert) Olson of Detroit Lakes, Lauri (Jim) Dawson of Ventura, Calif., Sandy (Ron) Hendricksen of Moorhead and Della Coalwell of Northridge, Calif.; one sister, Ruth Malakowsky of Hitterdal; one daughter-in-law, Esther Coalwell of Stillwater, Minn.; 36 grandchildren; 62 great grandchildren; and two great-great grandchildren.
Preceding Agnes in death were her parents; her husband; one son, Richard; seven brothers, Roy, Lloyd, infant brother Vondel, Vernon, George, Ralph and Leo Lofgren; five sisters, Anna, Ella, Emma, Marlene and an infant sister; one grandson, Robbie Olson; and one great granddaughter, Blaire Olson.
The family wishes to thank the staff of Sunnyside Care Center and Hospice of the Red River Valley for their kind and loving care toward Agnes.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred sent to Sunnyside Care Center, Lake Park.
Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, Feb. 27, at Wright Funeral Home in Hawley, with a 7 p.m. prayer service.
Funeral services are scheduled for 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 28, at Dilworth Lutheran Church, Dilworth, with interment following at the Ulen North Cemetery in Ulen.
