Affirm marriage as one man, one woman

Email

Thank you, Chris Asendorf, for quoting Jesus and so affirming the Christian faith. Jesus said and did many things to guide people in life, then and now, and I believe his spirit is speaking to you. While gospel writers like Matthew have recorded much, the apostle John finally had to concede, "Jesus did many other things as well. If every one of them were written down, I suppose that even the whole world would not have room for the books that would be written."

Jesus welcomed children and blessed them. He also performed signs to show that he is God. The greatest thing that Jesus did was to bless anyone who believes that he died to pay the penalty for our sins, including sins of sexuality, such as (a) acquaintance rape of underage young women, some of whom are coerced by their families or the rapists to get abortions at the taxpayer funded provider, Planned Parenthood, which often ignores the crimes; and (b) men having sex with underage young men, such as happened at Penn State, whether called pedophilia or homosexual activity.

There is forgiveness for sexual and other sins. Jesus paid our penalty of death, and he also rose from the dead because he is God and greater than death. Now he guides those who believe him and what he says. Jesus' "Sermon on the Mount" (part of which Chris quoted) deals with how to behave and how to treat other people. Jesus sums it up later in the Greatest Commandment from Old Testament Law: Love God with all your heart, soul, mind, and strength. We demonstrate that love by how we love other people.

One of the most beautiful expressions of love is marriage. Jesus performed his first sign at a wedding (recorded by John). Later challenged about marriage and divorce (recorded by Matthew), Jesus went back to creation, recorded in Genesis. "Haven't you read," He replied, "that at the beginning the Creator 'made them male and female,' and said, 'For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife, and the two will become one flesh'? So they are no longer two but one. Therefore what God has joined together, let man not separate."

Minnesota law recognizes marriage as between one man and one woman. We vote to affirm marriage, initiated and blessed by God through Jesus Christ.
