$900,000 grant awarded to Bemidji school district

The Bemidji school district has been awarded a grant totaling nearly $900,000.
The school board on Monday accepted a three-year grant totaling $882,795.56 that will benefit the 21st Century program, a Community Education after-school and summer program for at-risk students in grades 2-12.
The grant was awarded by the Minnesota Department of Education. Bemidji is one of only two communities north of St. Cloud to receive the grant.
The grant application was written by John Buckanaga, youth services coordinator, and John McRae, assistant coordinator.
The Bemidji 21st Century program has two years remaining on a similar grant.
This newest grant, which could be extended two additional years at the MDE’s discretion, will allow the program to focus on middle and high school students.
