Authorities identify man who died in fiery crash on Interstate 29 south of Grand Forks

8th District candidate is lifelong resident

I'm Jeff Anderson and I am a Democrat running for Congress in the 8th Congressional District. I grew up in Ely and attended Bemidji State University while serving as a member of the Army National Guard in Bemidji. Since that time I have worked in business and public policy as the former president of the Duluth City Council and Duluth Economic Development Authority.

I'm the only candidate who has lived in this district his whole life. In a time where budgets are tight, we need a leader who understands the struggles and opportunities we face, and those are things you don't learn on the fly. They come from life experience, which is why I am the best suited to go to Washington and hit the ground running in the fight for what is important to all of us.

In order to reach the next generation of northern Minnesota prosperity we need to create more livable wage jobs so that we can maintain our population base. My dad's graduating class in Ely was twice as big as mine, and this year's Ely graduating class will be half the size of my class. And this story is not unique to Ely. Quite simply, we're heading in the wrong direction. We are outsourcing our kids to the Twin Cities, where they are then dispersed all around the world. We need to diversify and expand our rural economies to keep our talented young people here to raise families and rebuild our region.

I will continue to partner with business and labor as I have in the past to make this happen throughout the district.

You won't agree with me on everything, but you know I will listen and work hard to bring people together for our greatest benefit. I will bring our values and know how to get our country moving forward again.

I will stand by our seniors and fight for Medicare and Social Security.

I will stand by our children and invest in education to help our local school districts.

I will stand by middle class families in the Northland, because that is my family.

I would be honored to have your vote and support in the primary on Aug. 14 to represent our home in Congress because I am one of us, for us.
