2 killed, 1 injured after crash near New London

NEW LONDON — A Madison couple is dead and another person is severely injured after a two-vehicle crash near New London.

According to the State Patrol, 82-year-old Arthur Dove was driving a van that collided with a semi at the intersection of U.S. Highway 71 and State Highway 9 at about 11:15 a.m. Thursday.

The West Central Tribune reportsDove and his 77-year-old wife, Elaine Dove, were killed.

The truck driver — a 63-year-old Hector man — was taken to St. Cloud Hospital and was in critical condition Thursday.

Both vehicles ended up in a ditch, with the semi coming to rest against some trees.

Part of Highway 71 was closed for more than two hours, reopening around 2 p.m. Thursday.
