According to a press release from the Hubbard County Sheriff's Office:

Jessica Christopherson was riding a 2004 Honda TRX650R ATV while Chad Tabaka, 30, of Walker, was driving it northbound on East Steamboat Forest Road in Hubbard County. Tabaka lost control of the ATV, causing it to leave the roadway. The ATV then struck a tree.

Christopherson was pronounced dead at the scene. Tabaka was transported to North Country Regional Hospital with a broken scapula and a possible fractured vertebra. He was listed in good condition Monday. Both riders were wearing helmets.

The crash was reported at 6:02 p.m. in Steamboat River Township, about 3 miles south of Benedict.

Christopherson was transported to the Ramsey County medical Examiner's Office for an autopsy.

It is unknown if alcohol or weather conditions contributed to the accident. It remains under investigation by the Hubbard County Sheriff's Office and Minnesota State Patrol.

Assisting at the scene were the State Patrol, Cass County Sheriff's Office, North Ambulance, Lakeport First Responders and Akeley First Responders.
