1 dead, 2 hurt in boat accident on St. Croix River
HUDSON, Wis. (AP) — Authorities said one person was killed and two others were hurt in a boating accident on the Wisconsin side of the St. Croix (croy) River.
The Pierce County Sheriff's Office says it was called to the scene about 11:45 p.m. Wednesday. It says a boat carrying three people was headed northbound on the St. Croix when it hit a rock face north of the Kinnickinnic (kee-NIK'-in-nik) State Park beach south of Hudson.
The medical examiner identifies the victim as 40-year-old David Joseph Riley of Afton, Minn. He died at the scene.
Authorities say the owner and apparent driver of the boat, 46-year-old Patrick Anthony Puhalla of Bayport, Minn., and a passenger, 55-year-old Daniel Michael Schultz, of Hudson, suffered non-life threatening injuries.
What led to the accident is still under investigation.
