1 dead, 1 injured in Detroit Lakes

DETROIT LAKES — A woman is dead and a man injured after an incident in downtown Detroit Lakes Wednesday afternoon.

Police said the situation is over and the public is not in danger. No names were released.

According to Police Chief Tim Eggebraaten, police responded to a request to check on the welfare of a person on Washington Avenue just before 3 p.m.

They found a woman dead and a man injured. St. Mary’s Ambulance was called to the scene and transported the man to the Detroit Lakes hospital. His condition was not released.

Becker County deputies helped city police officers cordon off the 900 block of Washington Avenue for about an hour, until emergency responders could secure the scene.

The Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension is assisting in the investigation.
