Master Gardeners to hold classes at Library

BEMIDJI -- The Beltrami County Master Gardeners will present a free lecture series, “Gardening 101” at the Bemidji Public Library, 509 America Ave NW. The first four talks will be on Thursdays at noon. The classes will include:

March 1: Wally Peck -- Garden Soils: Soil types, chemistry, nutrients and structure of soil with tips on improving garden soils.

March 8: Becky Livermore and Onen Markeson -- Squash: Growing and harvesting winter and summer squash from Acorn to Zucchini.

March 15: Cathy Peck - Cutting Gardens: Want to have enough flowers for your home or a special event? Here is a class on getting started in raising a cutting garden.

March 22: Wally Peck - Growing Greens: Sources, planting, and growing greens for healthy salads and sides.

There also will be two Saturday sessions this year, each starting at 10 a.m.:

March 31: Mary Lee Ouditt - Summer Flowering Bulbs: Tender bulbs can provide color and cut flowers.We’ll talk about Glads, Calla lilies and some you may not

have heard of.

April 14: Becky Livermore and Onen Markeson - Squash: Growing and harvesting winter and summer squash from Acorn to Zucchini.
