Parks and Rec to hold lifeguard training
BEMIDJI -- The Bemidji Parks and Recreation Department will host lifeguard training sessions at the BSU Gillett Wellness Center on March 1-4. Participants will practice swimming rescues, CPR and automated external defibrillator skills, first aid, patron surveillance, prevention and legal issues. Classroom video review of topics and skills will be used along with online course work. Participants must attend all four dates.
As prerequisite skills, candidates should be able to swim to the bottom in 12 feet of water, distance swim 300 yards with a front crawl or breaststroke, tread water for at least two minutes and be able to tow practice victims across the width of the pool.
Cost is $185 per participant, with a maximum of six participants.
