Great River Rescue plans ‘Holi-Spays’ for December

BEMIDJI -- Dubbed “Holi-Spays,” Great River Rescue recently announced that for every pet adopted between Dec. 1 and Dec. 23, $50 will be donated to the organization’s spay/neuter fund. The donations were made possible by two anonymous donors. Great River Rescue maintains a 100 percent spay/neuter policy, which means every pet gets altered prior to adoption. The policy is part of the organization’s commitment to preventing overpopulation, but it also represents one of its largest costs, according to a press release. As a private nonprofit agency, Great River Rescue depends on the community to continue its work of saving, caring for and finding homes for companion animals, the release said.
