We are not letting any grass grow under our feet at the Senior Activity Center. Presentations, music and trips will keep us busy all summer long. Don’t forget to check out our regular activities and volunteer opportunities. We try to have something for everyone at the center.

Elizabeth Andrews

Last month, Bill Jamerson, a Michigan-based singer, songwriter and author presented a storytelling program at the Senior Activity Center. The Civilian Conservation Corps presentation “Dollar-a-Day Boys” included stories, video clips from Jamerson’s PBS Film and original songs.

As impressed as we were with Jamerson’s charming and insightful presentation, he was just as impressed by us. He said he was “blown away by the response,” from our community. He is hoping to return to Bemidji and the Senior Activity Center with his other presentations about lumberjacks and minors because “these people love their history.”

Pancakes & Classic Cars

The Senior Activity Center and the Paul Bunyan Vintage Auto Club are teaming up for a Pancake Breakfast and Vintage Car Show this Saturday, June 10, at the center. Breakfast will be served from 8 to 11 a.m. Classic cars from different eras will be on display in the Northwest Minnesota Foundation parking lot across from the center. Breakfast, as usual, is the best pancakes in Bemidji and just $5 for adults and $2.50 for children younger than 12. The car show is free and the Senior Creations Craft will also be open.

Let’s Go Fishing

The Senior Activity Center is proud to team up with the Bemidji chapter of Let’s Go Fishing With Seniors for another great season of fishing and pontoon rides. If you would like to join one of the trips arranged by the senior center, call so we can get you registered for one of our June trips. If your organization or group would like more information about taking their own trip, please give Let’s Go Fishing a call at (218) 766-6336.

Bus trips

This is your last chance to sign up for the Bloom in June Bus Tour. The trip will be on Sunday, June 25, and will start with a two-hour tour on the paddle boat “Breezy Belle” on beautiful Pelican Lake. The tour will include a lovely brunch served on the boat. Then the bus will head to the Munsinger Clemens Gardens in St. Cloud. There will be time to explore the gardens, a concert by Granite City Brass and root beer floats for just a dollar. Please join us for this charming summertime trip. The trip is $87 for Senior Activity Center members and $97 for nonmembers; please sign up by Monday, June 12.

We have two trips going to the Minnesota State Fair in August. We are hoping that the extra date will allow even more people to experience the “Great Minnesota Get-Together.” The trips are on Monday, Aug. 28, and Thursday, Aug. 31. The cost for each trip is $55 for members and $65 for nonmembers. Sign up or get more information about any of our trips at the center.
