Forum Communications expands journalism efforts in South Dakota

PIERRE, S.D. — Forum Communications announced it will expand its journalism efforts in South Dakota with the addition of a reporter focused on government and statewide issues.

A full-time, permanent reporting position will be based in Pierre, the state capital, and include coverage of the state Legislature.

The job was posted on the company’s JobsHQ.com website and several employment boards.

The family-owned company owns and operates the Mitchell Daily Republic, along with more than 30 newspapers in North Dakota, Minnesota and Wisconsin. The company also operates TV stations, a Fargo radio station and Forum News Service, which oversees capitol reporting efforts in North Dakota and Minnesota.

Steve Wagner

As Forum Communications' director of content, Steve Wagner serves as the point person for content strategy and projects for the company's 30-plus newspapers. He oversees operations of Forum News Service, a regional wire provider to more than 100 newspapers, and guides newsroom collaboration between The Forum newspaper and WDAY TV.  Wagner also conducts training related to content, reporting and newsroom advancement. Previously, he served as editor at the Grand Forks (N.D.) Herald and Bemidji (Minn.) Pioneer, and worked in writing and editing roles at The Forum, where he won numerous awards for news reporting.
