North Country Health Services has announced the appointment of its new director of senior housing, Gina Heuer.

Heuer will assume overall responsibility for the operations of the Woods-Edge Senior Living Campus currently under construction and connected to Neilson Place.

Heuer's professional background includes roles in long-term care, senior housing, real estate, social work and leadership development.

WoodsEdge, a new concept in senior living, adds Trillium Memory Care and WindSong Catered Living apartments. Both will strive to keep their residents as independent as possible while providing a safe, supportive and social atmosphere. The resident-centered model will allow seniors to age in place as additional assistance is brought to them.

With construction entering the final states, Trillium will open Sept. 14 and WindSong will be finished in mid-November. Both buildings feature common spaces, a variety of daily activities, private apartments and 24-hour assistance.

Trillium will serve seniors with memory concerns, such as Alzheimer's and dementia, and operate as a secured building for the safety of their residents. With 18 studio suites and nine one-bedroom apartments, Trillium offers an alternative for couples with different levels of need to live together. The small environment is also helpful for residents affected by memory loss.

WindSong includes 80 catered living apartments, with a variety of one- and two-bedroom floor plans. Residents will have varying levels of need and can increase their services a la carte style. A basic amenity package is included with monthly rent. Each apartment includes a full kitchen, ample closet space, washer/dryer, dishwasher, large bathroom and all utilities.

Apartment reservations are currently being accepted for both Trillium and WindSong. Early sign-up allows future residents to choose to live near friends or relatives. Those reserving apartments early also can consider what apartment or view they would like and guarantee a parking spot in the underground garage.
