Patricia "Pat" Gendron, an employee of the USDA Farm Service Agency who works in the Bemidji County FSA Service Center, was honored with the agency's highest honorary award June 4 in Washington, D.C.

Recently named FSA Administrator Doug Caruso presented Gendron with an FSA Administrator's Award for Service to Agriculture.

As an employee for the Farm Service Agency of Minnesota for more than 20 years, Gendron has served in many capacities specializing in administering Farm Loan Programs. She currently serves as the state's management and program analyst for the Farm Loan Programs Division.

Gendron, and her husband Larry, live in Laporte.

The award nomination honored Gendron for demonstrating exceptional ability in problem solving, leadership, communicating with agency staff, and developing resources and training materials.

"Pat is very deserving of this recognition for her outstanding service to agency staff," said Stuart Shelstad, Farm Loan Programs chief for Minnesota. "Pat continually exceeds all expectations in performing her duties."

Gendron received her award in the Excellence in Program Support category. This award focuses on employees who have clerical, assistant, or program technician responsibilities with the agency.

Criteria for the annual award includes demonstrating high-quality performance of the technical responsibilities of the position, demonstrating outstanding customer service, performing at a level that substantially exceeds the performance standards of the position, and developing and/or implementing a system or methodology that improves program delivery either internally or externally.

Three individuals nation-wide received the award in 2009 in the Excellence in Program Support category. Eleven awards were granted in the other categories, including Civil Rights Leadership, Excellence in Leadership and Management, Outstanding Team Accomplishment, Excellence in Achieving Goals and Objectives, and Heroism and Emergency Response.

Farm Service Agency is a division of the United States Department of Agriculture. The agency is responsible for implementing such programs as the Conservation Reserve Program, Milk Income Loss Contract Program, and Direct and Guaranteed Farm Loans.
