Knife River nominated for award

BEMIDJI — Knife River Materials of Bemidji has been nominated for the Sheldon G. Hayes Award.

The National Asphalt Pavement Association announced the four finalists for the award earlier this month, according to a press release.

Knife River Materials and the Minnesota Department of Transportation were named one of four finalists for the 2012 mill and overlay project on 17 miles of U.S. Highway 75 in Marshall County.

NAPA’s Sheldon G. Hayes Award has been bestowed annually since 1971 for a highway pavement exhibiting exemplary quality. The paving projects have undergone two rounds of testing, including an evaluation of engineering controls and pavement performance in order to be deemed the top-four performing pavements in the country. A final round of on-site evaluations will occur, and the winner will be announced Feb. 5 at the 2014 NAPA Annual Meeting in Boca Raton, Fla.
